Traineeship Grants for PhD students

These grants, financed by  the Institut Pasteur International Network (RIIP), are designed to promote and facilitate research traineeships for PhD students within the Institut Pasteur International Network, in an RIIP member institute or in other research institution. This may apply to standard or jointly-supervised theses (North/South).

Selection criteria are as follows:

• Limited duration: 1 to 4 months per year and possibility of renewal for three years after evaluation without ever exceeding 8 months maximum for all the thesis
• No age limit
• Research traineeships must be done outside of the applicant’s home country and may be done in several different laboratories.

The theme of the traineeship must be related to the applicant’s research topic. Traineeships should strengthen the applicant’s research skills and contribute to building capacities in his/her home institution.

The applicant must have completed the first year of his/her Master’s or equivalent degree, or have a PhD in medicine, in the sciences (veterinary or other), and/or pharmacy.

There is two applications cycle every year.

The Executive Board of the RIIP will distribute grants according to the relevance of the project, the goals of the research traineeship, and the resources of the applicant’s home institution.

The amount of the grant will be adjusted depending on the applicant’s home country and will be provided as a lump sum.

The application must include:
Research grant request form, including:

• A clarified and argued letter of application
• Summary of the research traineeship (1/2 page max.)
• Applicant’s curriculum vitae
• Presentation of completed research and results obtained
• Chronological list of scientific publications with copies of the most significant publications (preferably in RTF or PDF format)
• The applicant must indicate whether he/she has already received a grant from a French or international organisation in 2007, 2008 or 2009, and whether he/she has applied for any other grants in 2010 and if so, at which institution(s). The applicant must provide general information on resources.
• Letter of commitment by the applicant to write one report at the end of the research traineeship.

• Supporting letter from the director of the home institution
• Supporting letter from the applicant’s supervisor
• A argued letter of commitment from the director of the host laboratory with a detailed presentation of the training project, its integration in a research program and the collaboratiive programs, the interest and the added value of the training (10 lines for the traineeships of less than 3 months and 1 on 3 pages for the traineeships of more than 3 months), as well as a commitment to provide assistance to the applicant as needed and specifying the name, qualifications and position of the researcher who will be supervising the traineeship.

Applicants should note that incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Two calls for proposals a year:
- Launch: the middle of February and the middle of September
- Deadline for applications: the middle of May and the middle of November
- Meeting of the selection committee: the middle of June and the middle of December
- Announcement: the end of June and the end of December
