OVERALL SITUATION AS OF 31 DECEMBER 2008
§ The PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technique applied to the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis caused by N. meningitidis, S. pneumoniae and H. Influenza was introduced to the six FSP Meningitis countries.
§ All centres use the protocol that was designed by Dr M. Taha from the Neisseria Unit of the National Reference Centre at the Institut Pasteur.
§ In total, 12 biologists, 1 biologist engineer and 18 technicians have been trained in molecular techniques that can be used to diagnose bacterial meningitis.
