Laboratory capacity building

Many programs at the Institut Pasteur in Bangui were already making use of the PCR technique, but the technique was not used in the field of bacterial meningitis. Using the technique for this specific purpose was introduced and three laboratory technicians have been trained to use it for this purpose. PCR is now used to diagnose bacterial meningitis in addition to the conventional methods of microbiological diagnosis.
