Le Pr Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI reçoit le titre Dr Honoris Causa de l’Université de Bangui

25/10/12 Le Professeur Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI, prix Nobel de Médecine, a reçu le titre de Docteur Honoris Causa de l’Université de Bangui le 25 octobre 2012. Lors de la cérémonie de remise officielle du diplôme, son Excellence Monsieur Faustin TOUADERA, Premier Ministre de la République Centrafricaine, lui a remis les insignes d’Officier de l’Ordre National de la Reconnaissance Centrafricaine. Elle a ensuite prononcé une conférence à l’Université de Bangui sur l’histoire de la découverte du virus du Sida et les défis de la recherche actuelle. Par la même occasion, elle a inauguré avec Mme Catherine FERRANT, déléguée générale de la Fondation Total et le Ministre de la Santé, un incinérateur au complexe pédiatrique financé par la Fondation Total avec la collaboration de l’Institut Pasteur de Bangui. Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI a aussi rendu hommage au Dr Alain GEORGES, Directeur de l'Institut Pasteur de Bangui de 1979 à 1991. En présence de la famille GEORGES, elle a assisté au vernissage d’une exposition consacrée à la vie du Dr GEORGES et inauguré un bâtiment, à l’Institut Pasteur de Bangui, dédié à la formation et financé par l’AFD baptisé « Bâtiment Alain GEORGES ».

Professor Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Bangui

25/10/12 Professor Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI, Nobel Prize in Physiology Or Medicine laureate, has been awarded the title of Docteur Honoris Causa of the University of Bangui on the 25th of October 2012. During the award ceremony, His Excellency Mister Faustin TOUADERA, Prime Minister of the Central African Republic presented the insignia of Officer Central African Order of Merit to her. She delivered a lecture at the University of Bangui about the history of the HIV discovery and the critical challenges and the future priorities in HIV research. At the same time she inaugurated together with Mrs Catherine FERRANT, Total Foundation’s General Delegate and the Minister of Health one incinerator at the paediatric unit funded by the Total Foundation in cooperation with Institut Pasteur in Bangui. Françoise BARRE-SINOUSSI also paid tribute to Dr Alain GEORGES, Director of Institut Pasteur in Bangui from 1979 to 1991. In the presence of the GEORGES family, she attended the opening of an exhibition devoted to Dr GEORGES’ life. She also inaugurated a building at Institut Pasteur in Bangui named after Alain GEORGES. This building is dedicated to training and was funded by the French Development Agency (AFD).
